Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation
STAR Day Programme
Background Information
The STAR Project Ballymun, as part of its services, offers a day rehabilitation Programme and Community Employment Project for people living in Ballymun or surrounding areas over the age of 18. The purpose of the programme is to address a person’s substance use, develop potential, confidence, self-esteem & learning skills, so that participants can re-integrate into their community as a positive part of their recovery from drug /alcohol use.
The programme offers a confidential, professional, and non-judgmental service.
How we work
A first key part of the way the day programme works is to support individuals untangle and separate out the different areas of their life that they need support with and that is presenting challenges for them. The way we do this is to start by looking at a person’s unique relationship to their substance(s) of choice and the behaviors associated with that substance(s) of choice.

Approaches we use All of these approaches are underpinned by Trauma Informed and trauma sensitive ways of working developed over many years
- Resonance Factor – Explores the unique relationship each individual has with their substance and the behaviours associated with that relationship.
- Mindfulness – Support people to be aware of what they are sensing and feeling in the moment.
- Seeking Safety – Dual Diagnosis programme working around mental health and substance use
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Exploring thoughts and beliefs to reflect on problematic thinking and behaviour
- Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) – Helps people find healthier and more adaptive ways to meet their needs.
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) exploring motivation to change
- STEPS Programme – Energizes the individual towards their vision with an evidence – based understanding of how setting goals and addressing old conditioning creates change
- Hakomi psychotherapy- body oriented approach to support awareness of long held patterns that cause suffering to an individual being understood and released
STAR provides a Pre-Entry programme where participants who want to come onto our Day Programme can avail of weekly one to one’s to help support them around their relationship with their substance and help get them to a place where they meet the criteria for Phase 1 or Phase 2. It also helps the participant build relationships with the Staff Team. Anyone who wants to make lasting changes to their substance use can avail of our Pre-Entry programme.
